The mission of the Indiana University Center for Environmental Health is to foster excellence in scientific research, training, and outreach in environmental health with a goal of identifying, understanding and preventing environmentally related diseases covering the human life span. Locally, environmentally driven human disease costs the State of Indiana jobs and potential revenue, and negatively impacts the quality of life and the economy of the State. The IU School of Medicine and IUPUI campus provide an ideal setting for coordinated effort in Environmental Health Sciences. The combination of academic health science research, environmental research, county and state public health programs, state environmental programs, information technology, and centers for environmental policy and earth and environmental science are all located on or near the IUPUI campus. Thus this location provides an excellent geographic and philosophical template to foster understanding and improvement of human health and the environment.

The goal of the Center is to be a nationally and internationally recognized center for Environmental Health.

Program Organization
IUCEH Program Organization
The Indiana University Center for Environmental Health's is currently concentrating in three areas:
  • The Center for Environmental Health serves to nucleate and support interdisciplinary research programs bridging environmental analysis with human health through both basic and applied research.  The center cultivates external grant proposal development in Environmental Health Sciences.

  • The academic mission of the Center will be to foster graduate and post-graduate training. This mission will be achieved through seminar series, retreats, interactions between individual center members and research work on collaborative grants.

  • Outreach and research translation are critical for communicating the importance of activities and findings to the research community, the public, regulators and decision makers.  Research translation will come in the form of news bulletins, a website, and a newsletter, as well as outside publications. The Center for Environmental Health also provides an independent third party resource to regulators, state and federal agencies, industry and non-government organizations on environmental and environmental health issues.  This includes Panel formation, development of Issue Papers and consultation on environmental health issues.
